What We Do

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) created a new immigration program called Uniting for Ukraine (U4U), permitting Ukrainian refugees entry directly to the U.S. by having American citizens, businesses and nonprofit groups sponsor Ukrainian refugees for Humanitarian Parole Refugee Status.

Under U4U, American citizens and groups will be required to attest to their financial ability to sponsor Ukrainian parolee refugees — but sponsors are not legally obligated to financially assist the parole refugees.

The U4U program will function similarly to one created for Afghans evacuated from Kabul last August. The Ukrainian parolees will be given work permits — for which they will have to apply once they are processed as humanitarian parolees. They may soon also be eligible for public benefits.

It is our belief that priority under U4U should be given to single mothers with children and their elderly relatives. These families can return to Ukraine (if they so wish) when peace returns, but in the meantime can find safe refuge in America. They can learn English while temporarily living here and relieve the pressure in Poland and other Eastern European where over 5 million Ukrainians are now temporarily sheltering. Most critical, these returnees will be a valuable asset to postwar Ukraine as it rebuilds itself.

We have special interest in the project as Jewish refugees from who came to America fleeing Communism. Our project is named UTransport2USAFund:

Ukrainian Mothers & Children Transport Fund/Матері та діти Транспорт Фонт

evoking the memory of the famous Kindertransport in 1938-1939 when 10,000 Jewish children were allowed to enter the United Kingdom from Nazi-occupied Europe on the eve of the outbreak of the Second World War.

While we cannot stop the terrible carnage in the Ukraine, each of us can make a difference for one Ukrainian family at a time. Thousands were saved from the Holocaust by having an American sponsor. Among them, Albert Einstein. Tens of thousands perished because no one stepped up to sponsor them. Among them, Anne Frank and her family. Our motto: “Bringing Ukrainian refugees to America…one family at a time”

Making a Difference

With cooperation we are able to help those impacted by this terrible war. The desire to help transcends nationality and religion. Many communities, like this one in South Florida, have already successfully helped to relocate Ukrainian families to the U.S. and serve as a brilliant example of what is possible. Read the full story.
